In 1992 my family was severely affected by the Sri Lankan Civil War. It caused the greatest humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka and was the significant reason I decided to move to the Netherlands. When I was in Sri Lanka, I worked in the Textile Shop owned by my father, we had a good life, but that life wasn’t promised due to the ongoing crisis. In Netherland, we faced many hardships, one being financial hardship due to working rights restrictions. Our quality of life was severely affected, which forced us to migrate to the UK in 2006.

I realized that it was not only me who struggled to live or make a living back home in Sri Lanka. It impacted hundreds of thousands of lives.

It has been my dream since childhood to want to help those of the less fortunate. I already had a similar background, and I could relate to their situation from their shoes.

I met Faleel in 2006 in our Community mosque, he became a co-founder of our charity which we started together. He was the Vice President of the Sri Lankan community mosque in Leicester back then.

The Sri Lankan community initiated a fundraising project in 2006. I was requested to raise some funds for the people affected by Tsunami in Sri Lanka in 2004. So, we walked door to door to raise funds, and we successfully completed the project.

Since then, our community members recommended Faleel and me for further projects to fundraise, and they even started to contribute more, knowing they could trust us. We could easily expand our services to other regions and several other causes as well.

In 2018, we established a charity under the name of Sadhaqathul Jaariyah UK with a Mission to help people who are struggling back home in Sri Lanka. The key objectives of the mission are to help those in poverty, quench their thirst, feed the hungry, Shelter them, allow them to make a living, and even more.

We have executed more than 450 projects covering two countries; Sri Lanka and Uganda.

After 4 years of establishing our charity, we have renamed our organization as Sadhaqa to serve more people and expand our services to cover a variety of causes. Every penny you donate could save a life, feed a hungry, keep a widow, or even stop women from becoming streetwalkers.
